Ali Pervez Mehdi

He was six years old when he began his classical musical training in his hometown of Lahore, Pakistan with his father, legendary Ghazal singer and musician, the late Ustad Pervez Mehdi, and grandfather Ustad Bashir Hussain rahi sahib.

Ali was 16 when he took the stage for his first public performance and by age 19 he was was honored to receive khitab of 'Sur Mani' from 'Prachin Kala Kendra' in Chandigadh in the name of Pt.Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande, an architect of modern Hindustani music.

Since then, he has performed around the globe, including shows in India, Bangladesh, Scandinavia, and Russia.

Ali has shared the stage with artists such as A.R.Rehman, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Hari Haran, Sukhwinder Singh, Sadna Sargam, Chitra and many more.

Bollywood movie fans know Ali for his hit song Charha De Rang, written and performed for the 2010 movie Yamla Pagla Deewana.

 

He was also the original songwriter and composer for the song Dholna, later performed by Atif Aslam in season 5 of Coke Studio Pakistan.  He recently shared his incomparable vocal talents on a duet with Kuhoo Gupta titled "AankhonKo", as well as a Doodh Patti's "Yadein Azaab" with Taimoor Mirza.

Ali is the creative force that brought together a diverse and exceptionally talented musicians to form the band M7TH (Major7th). Ali uses his talents as a composer and lyricist to marry his love of eastern traditional ghazals and western music genres to create a new fusion sound that fans and critics are raving about. M7TH released it's debut EP "Walking In" in October 2013. The band is planning a promotional tour and an official album release in 2014.

 

Ali is a citizen of the world who loves spending time with his family and friends at his homes in Lahore and Texas.
